Transmission oil leaks in GM vehicles across the U.S and Canada have caused the automaker to recall over 217,000 vehicles. This recall affects certain models and versions of the 2018 through 2020 GM lineup. Popular models such as the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, 2018-2019 Chevrolet Cruze, and Buick LaCrosse make up the majority of the recall. However, some other Buick, Cadillac, GMC, and Chevrolet models are also affected. (Full list below.)

According to the government report released by GM, two bolts may be missing from the stop-start mechanism of these cars and SUVs. These missing parts are causing fluid to leak. So far, the company claims there have been no reported crashes, fires, or injuries related to this defect. If you have one of the affected vehicles, you can take it to your local dealership. Your dealer will replace the bolts if they are missing at no cost to owners. Be sure to do this as soon as possible. Having fluid leak from your vehicle can lead to a number of mechanical malfunctions or even combustion if left unrepaired. Owners of affected vehicles can expect to receive notice of the issue starting in mid-December
