Texas #1 For Speedy Drivers

According to a new report from an insurance company, Texas is the number one state when it comes to speedy drivers. With an average speed limit close to 80 miles per hour and 46th in the nation for speeding tickets, Texas is ranked king of speeding drivers. For comparison, the average speed across the country is only 67 MPH. While speedy drivers in Texas might be glad they aren’t alone, this isn’t good news. Speeding is the number cause of accidents across the US, and especially in Texas. According to the Department of Transportation, over 130,000 accidents we caused simply because a driver failed to control their speed last year. After learning Texas leads in speeders and in has the highest average highway speed, its no surprise the number of accidents is so high.

But is speeding really that dangerous? The truth is, yes it is. Across the U.S, 9,717 people died in accidents caused by speeding. The overwhelming majority of traffic fatalities are caused by speeding drivers. This should be concerning for anyone who has to drive on Texas roads. The reason speeding is so unsafe is because the new varriables drivers have to account for. When your speed increases, you have to compensate for an increased stopping distance. On top of this, the faster you go, the less control you have of your vehicle. This combined with a more server impact can make for a much more dangerous situation. For your safety, and for the safety of others on the road, be sure to keep your speed limit in check.
